A plant can be cared for with all the love in the world – embedded in the best soil, nourished by the sun and good fertilizer. But if the pot is too small, its potential for growth will always be limited.

The exact same is true for our breath: It needs space, which we can give it within our body through practices like yoga.

FAQ

Many people associate yoga with the individual poses (Asanas) – however, that is only a small, albeit very important, part. Ultimately, we use the physical exercises and the breath as tools to quiet the constant merry-go-round of thoughts in our minds for a while. Instead of letting everyday stress, to-do lists, and worries control you, you learn on the mat to simply take a deep breath and arrive fully in the here and now. In the end, yoga is not a competitive sport, but the art of finding inner peace and feeling completely at home in your own body again.

A clear yes – because in yoga, there is no competition and no trophies for the "coolest" pose.

Every body is completely unique and shows up in a different shape every single day. That is why I always show you different levels and modifications for the exercises, allowing you to go exactly as far as feels right for you. We do not compare ourselves to others; instead, we learn to listen to our own bodies.

Is it okay to step out of your comfort zone sometimes? Absolutely! That is exactly where we grow. However, the key is to find the "sweet spot": the edge where you challenge yourself without harming your body. In the end, it is all about allowing yourself to grow just a little bit beyond your limits and leaving the mat with an all-around great feeling.

The philosophical question of accessories.

Here is an overview of what is available and when it makes sense to use it.

My recommendation: Choose what gives you a sense of security. More security helps you perform the exercises more precisely and deeply. You are less prone to injury and will make faster progress.

  • Yoga Mat

    Recommendation: A clear YES!
Benefit: It provides non-slip grip for a secure stance and is also more hygienic.
Alternative: Many yoga studios offer rental mats. Be sure to ask in advance.

  • Fascia Ball

    Recommendation: Yes, for everyone!
Benefit: Perfect for rolling out the soles of your feet before the session to create a healthy, relaxed foundation for your balance. Rolling out your feet is also a great routine to start your day, every day.
Alternative: A regular tennis ball or a hard massage ball works wonderfully as a free substitute.

  • Yoga Blocks

Recommendation: Especially for beginners or if the back of your legs is tight.
Benefit: They "extend" your arms, bring the floor closer to you, and give you noticeably more stability if you still lack flexibility.
Alternative: Simply grab two thick, sturdy encyclopedias or hardcover books.

  • Yoga Strap

Recommendation: Yes, if you cannot reach your feet yet in forward folds.
Benefit: It gently extends your reach, allowing you to stretch deeply without tensing up your back or shoulders.
Alternative: A sturdy trouser belt or the strap of your bathrobe.

  • Knee Pad

Recommendation: Only if your knees are sensitive.
Benefit: If you have a hard mat or sensitive joints, this protects your knees in the all-fours position. If you are pain-free there, you simply do not need it.
Alternative: A small, folded towel or a flat sofa cushion will also do the trick in the beginning.

  • Meditation Cushion

Recommendation: Yes, if your hips are tight or your lower back rounds while sitting.
Benefit: It aligns your pelvis so you can sit upright without pain. If your hips are super flexible and you can sit relaxed on the floor anyway, you only really need it to keep your bum from getting cold.
Alternative: A firm living room cushion or a sturdily folded pillow.

  • Blanket

Recommendation: If you want to get nice and cozy at the end – adapted to the season!
Benefit: It warms your body during your well-deserved deep relaxation (Savasana). In winter, a cozy blanket is worth its weight in gold.
Alternative: For many, a comfy sweater and thick socks are more than enough.

Arriving

It is best to arrive 10 minutes before the class starts. This gives you plenty of time to find your spot in peace, unroll your mat, and take a moment to breathe before we begin.

The class

We start with a brief moment of stillness and slowly work our way through gentle, mobilizing movements toward slightly more powerful flows. I will always show you different variations so you can determine the intensity yourself at any time – regardless of whether you need it more gentle or more intense today. The goal is to move your body in all directions and find the perfect balance between tension and relaxation. The practice varies from week to week in order to specifically build strength as well as promote flexibility and mobility. With noticeably more lightness and freedom in your body, we will finally let the session fade out relaxedly with a short breathing exercise and a brief meditation.

A regular yoga class with me usually takes 90 minutes.

My certified foundational style is Vinyasa Yoga – but my classes are so much more than that. As a trained breathwork coach, breathing plays a very special, central role for me: it carries you through the movement and calms your mind. At the same time, I integrate everything into the practice that brings a real benefit to your body awareness. That is why modern mobility routines are not neglected either. In short: we use the best of different worlds so that you leave the class with a noticeably better feeling in your body than when you arrived. The best thing is to just come by and experience it for yourself.
